Description
Camp Hwange Overview
Camp Hwange is made up of a big lounge area and a beautiful restaurant. The camp has been decorated tastefully with an African atmosphere. Camp Hwange is an intimate and comfortable camp that guarantees great service. The main thatched building was built specifically to observe the waterhole and the abundant wildlife that visit it frequently to quench their thirst.
Wanting to only leave a ‘green footprint’, conservation was the driving force in the construction of Camp Hwange. Solar energy provides all the hot water and power to the camp. Building materials have been chosen to blend in with the surrounding bush.
The Camp Fire
The Camp fire is the heart of safari life and is one of the main features of Camp Hwange. Gather around the camp fire while watching the early morning sunrise. Enjoy a cup of coffee as you listen to the multitude of bird calls, enthralled by the gradual changing hues of the skies as the bush slowly wakes to greet a new day. Evenings around the camp fire are a chance to share with others the sightings, experiences and some of the many emotions that have filled your day.
Camp Hwange Surrounding Area
Camp Hwange is shaded on one side by a Teak forest, and overlooks a large open plain on the other side. Leopard frequent the nearby rocky outcrops in this area. A thatched observation post at the waterhole is the perfect spot to quietly marvel at the massive herds of Elephants and Buffalos. The resident hippos serenade you with their characteristic grunts and snorts. Doves, Sparrows and chatty Hornbills are constantly spotted under the watchful eye of the ever present Raptors. This is a photographer’s paradise. Resident lions habitually walk from waterhole to waterhole and are frequently sighted while on a game drive. Game walks in this vicinity can prove to be adventurous and thrilling. The wide open plains make this area suitable for the elusive Cheetah and the endangered Wild Dog. The area is also home to the nocturnal Serval, Black Backed Jackal and Spotted Hyenas.
