Indigo Bay Resort is a water-lover’s dream. Marine enthusiasts can get on with diving, snorkelling and fishing in this sought after African ocean destination. Look out for the largest population of the rare Dugong on the African East coast. You may see one eating the sea grasses around Bazaruto Island.
Water Sports: Get into non-motorised water sport – water skiing, knee or wake boarding; kayaking peacefully or looking for dugongs, turtles, whales and dolphins from a boat.
Traditional Dhow Excursions: chilled enough to really unwind, end each day here, as the sun sinks
• Learn how to Cook: the qualified chef will impart his tricks and treats to keen wanna-be chefs. Learn how to grill fresh seafood and use fresh veges and herbs from the garden in Portuguese dishes.

On site instructors at Indigo Bay Resort offer diving courses for beginners and experienced reef divers. All necessary plans are carefully co-ordinated, from the initial safety precautions, to the final dive entry.
CHECK OUT THESE DIVE SITES
• Brindle Bass Ridge – a large reef featuring impressive concentrations of snapper, angelfish, rubberlips, brindle bass and reef sharks
• Potholes – a series of shallow potholes, and can only be dived in flat, calm conditions
• Manta Ray Reef – a flat reef with spectacular concentrations of anemones sheltering both nose-stripe and two-bar clownfish. The reef is often frequented by green turtles and rays.
• Rainbow Runner Reef – a flat reef where divers should concentrate on watching the open ocean above the sea floor. Manta and spotted eagle rays, potato and brindle bass, rainbow runner and Zambezi shark pass through this area. The reef also has impressive accumulations of green-tree and whips coral.
• Turtle Ridge – a narrow ridge with a depth of 14 metres, frequented by turtles and game fish such as barracuda
• Two-Mile Reef – a short barrier reef protecting a narrow channel between Bazaruto and Benquerra. Particularly well known for its excellent snorkelling sites inside the reef, as well as exciting dives ont he outside.
• Zenguelema Point – with a depth of 21 metres, this dive site is located on the western side of the island and is home to schools of reef fish, scorpion fish and crocodile fish

WHAT YOU CAN CATCH
• King Mackerel – definitely one of the most abundant species in tehse waters, the king mackerel abounds year round and takes most varieties of bait
• Yellowfin Tuna – the main target species, large shoals of tuna move in and out of the area all year round
•Kingfish – locally known as “Ignobilis”, are present all year round and the sheer power of this fish is unparalleled and it is known for bending hooks and snapping lines
Great Barracuda and Sea Pike – the area is very popular for the quantity of its game fish year round
• Marlin – Blue and striped marlin are present in these waters and the season runs from September – April, with October to December being peak season
Sailfish – Bazaruto’s winter run of sailfish attracts the most anglers to its waters
• Wahoo – averaging a weight of 40lbs, these bullet-shaped fish are present all year round with a peak in the early summer months of September – November
• Dorado – this hard fighting colourful fish takes into the air when hooked, providing a breath-taking spectacle
