Camp Shawu

Camp Shawu Overview

Peaceful riverside lodge in southern Kruger ideal for relaxation and rewarding wildlife sightings

Camp Shawu is named after one of the most famous African elephants, the Magnificent Seven. The elephant bull named Shawu roamed the Kruger area for sixty years. With the longest tusks ever recorded in South Africa, Shawu commanded instinctive respect and admiration from all who gazed upon him. Those lucky enough to have encountered this awe-inspiring bull say he took your breath away. Camp Shawu aims to do the same.

Game Drives

Imagine taking in a magnificent sunset whilst you capture the moment of a pride of lions stalking their prey or possibly watching a buffalo or elephant strolling to a water hole. The rhino, with its extraordinary horns and bad temper or the leopard with its remarkable speed and skill to hunt. Many visitors to Camp Shawu regard their trip as being incomplete without having spotted and photographed the Big 5.

Boma Dinner

Camp Shawu is legendary when it comes to experiencing unforgettable African safaris that evoke mystery, wonder and above all else, adventure!. Enjoy early morning or late afternoon game drives in search of the ‘Big 5’ with an expert guide. Afterwards, return to camp to share your stories while you dine on traditional cuisine around a roaring boma fire under the stars of the African sky. Enjoy vivid storytelling by the local community including rituals that are still enacted today.

Photography

The world-renowned Kruger National Park offers a wildlife experience that ranks with the best in Africa. On this photo safari you will have the opportunity to explore and photograph Africa’s Big 5 from a private game viewing vehicle just meters away from Africa’s most magnificent animals, in a 15000 hectare private concession.
